The sevens are the most stubborn table, with no pattern, no double and no easy count to lean on. With nothing to shortcut, the sevens are where recall is genuinely built, and the facts to drill hardest are 7x6, 7x7 and 7x8. A child already knows the twos and fives, and many seven facts can be reached by adding: 7x5 plus 7 is 7x6. It belongs in the hard middle.
